I used to think students needed facts & skills first, before deep thinking. But research shows concepts connects new info to prior knowledge for lasting understanding. Now I engage students in deep thinking throughout learning, not just as a “final step.” #PatternSeekers

I used to think prompts like 'justify' or 'analyze' measured higher-order thinking. But if the task isn’t new, students just recall my thinking. Tasks must involve transfer: applying concepts to a completely new situation. Recall is no longer the bar; transfer is.
