In Haryana’s Khanda village, social worker
@sandy_khanda is leading Periods of Pride, a campaign blending menstrual health education with climate action. Through his
@GreenPencil01 , he has reached over two lakh women across India with reusable cloth pads, tackling both period poverty and plastic pollution. Recent initiatives include eco-gender-friendly libraries and a dedicated healthcare wing. Khanda says the aim is to “make menstruation and sustainability everyday conversations, not taboos.”
Cloth Pads, Big Change
👉🏽 Reusable cloth pads, lasting up to three years, are washable, compostable, and toxin-free. “They’re comfortable, economical, and leave no plastic behind,” Khanda. Workshops across rural India now see girls openly asking questions and boys participating in menstrual health discussions.
From Silence to Action
👉🏽The movement began after Khanda witnessed unsafe disposal practices in childhood and survived a major road accɨdent in 2016. Today, the Foundation also runs environmental and mental health projects nationwide.
👉🏽 Periods of Pride shows how one idea can challenge stigma and protect the planet. By empowering communities with knowledge and sustainable solutions, we can spark quiet revolutions.
⚡⚡ How can each of us normalise such conversations in our own circles?
