Phasmids

Stick bugs, also known as walking sticks or phasmids, are fascinating insects that have mastered the art of camouflage. Their bodies are elongated and slender, mimicking the appearance of twigs or branches so perfectly that predators often overlook them completely. This natural

Stickbugs are kinda their own thing (phasmids). Katydids are commonly referred to as bush crickets and look somewhat like grasshoppers, but with longer antennae

Although phasmids have developed a peculiar camouflage survival behavior and are more skilled than other insects, their camouflage is so perfect that they have confused themselves even before they manage to confuse their enemies.

These Aren't Leaves... They're Insects! 🦗🌿 At first glance, they look like dry leaves or twigs, but they're actually praying mantises and phasmids.

🚨 Phyllium giganteum, the Giant Malaysian Leaf Insect, is one of the world's largest leaf-mimicking phasmids. Interesting fact: Males are extraordinarily rare in the wild; the species was known only from females for a decade after its 1984 discovery, with the first live male described in 1994. Most populations reproduce parthenogenetically (females produce female offspring without mating), making sexual reproduction uncommon. Females grow up to 11-12 cm, making it one of the largest leaf insects, while males are slimmer and capable fliers. Native to Malaysian rainforests, they feed on guava, mango, and other leaves, swaying gently to mimic wind-blown foliage. Their camouflage is so effective that predators often overlook them entirely! 🎄 #InsectAdvent Day 13 - #Phasmatodea, the masters of disguise 🪵 Their bodies mimic twigs, leaves or bark so well they almost vanish against foliage. #FunFact: Some #phasmids reproduce by #parthenogenesis (females produce offspring without mating). 🔗 royensoc.co.uk/understanding…

I raised a similar species of stick insect (Phobaeticus serratipes) and another (Heteropteryx dilatata) that lay the heaviest insect ova (egg). 😝 Most phasmids are defenseless but H.dilatata are aggressive & use the sharp spines on their rear legs as 'teeth' to bite predators.

okay so for this case i’m going to do specifically insects because the category of “bug” is too debated so :) - mantis - beetles - ladybugs - katydids/bush crickets - phasmids
