Oltre 40 cittadini americani sono sotto indagine da parte dei funzionari federali degli Stati Uniti in merito alla missione umanitaria Nuestra América Flotilla che ha portato medicinali e aiuti umanitari a Cuba a marzo scorso.
Secondo quanto riportato, il Dipartimento del Tesoro sta indagando per accertare se gli attivisti "abbiano violato le sanzioni statunitensi durante il viaggio".
Tra gli indagati ci sono Hasan Piker, uno dei più seguiti streamer americani, e la co-fondatrice dell’organizzazione pacifista @codepink , @medeabenjamin.
“Portare forniture mediche negli ospedali pediatrici di Cuba è diventato un crimine? Salvare la vita dei neonati è diventato un crimine? Questa amministrazione è a dir poco grottesca” ha commentato Medea Benjamin che ha aggiunto:
“Sono colpevole. Colpevole di amare il popolo cubano. Colpevole di credere che i bambini cubani meritino medicine anziché sanzioni”.
In merito al supposto mandato di comparizione, Benjamin ha dichiarato che al momento non ha ricevuto alcuna citazione in giudizio: “Forse ne arriverà una. Ma sia chiaro: non abbiamo fatto nulla di male durante il nostro viaggio a Cuba nel marzo 2026. Al contrario, abbiamo agito come cittadini statunitensi di sani principi, cercando di portare un po' di sollievo a una popolazione deliberatamente affamata dalle crudeli politiche del nostro stesso governo”.
Coalizione internazionale di movimenti sociali, sindacati e organizzazioni umanitarie, Nuestra América Flotilla ha portato alimenti, medicinali e altri beni essenziali per rompere l’assedio statunitense.
Cuba è sull’orlo del precipizio: da gennaio gli Usa hanno iniziato un vero e proprio assedio di Cuba.
Lo strangolamento americano impatta su un’economia fragilissima, assediata dalle sanzioni, costretta a dipendere dal turismo, tagliata fuori dai commerci internazionali.
Il blocco petrolifero imposto dagli Stati Uniti sta esaurendo rapidamente le riserve di carburante di Cuba, trascinando la popolazione dell’isola
in una crisi umanitaria gravissima.
