People knock Plex (I have grandfathered lifetime PlexPass), but running it on a 8700K/32GB DDR4/RTX2080 (NVENC HW Transcoding)/102TB HDDs , but it handles simultaneous 2160p HEVC HDR 10bit with at least 5 connections without any issues (not tried more connections TBH).

Its clear they dont want anyone to actually buy the lifetime pass. They want to kill it and get you locked into a stable revenue stream of the subscription then they can steadily increase it over time.
I bet they wish they never introduced the lifetime #plexpass

Not saying that agree with the price increases, but if already got something & it works extremely well, why drop it & have to spend money on other things to use something else?
May rethink things if Plex decide to cancel Grandfathered PlexPass, but until then, it stays.

None of MY TV’s (mixture of Sony & HiSense) have JellyFin clients. Why should I have to buy another box when already have a Lifetime PlexPass & works perfectly fine on every TV in the property as well as all the friends & family’s TV’s who connect to my server?

Obecni posiadacze Lifetime, nic się nie zmienia. Wszystko zostaje jak jest.
W 2026 roku pytanie o sens Plex Pass jest zasadne, zwłaszcza przy dzisiejszej przepustowości kompresja wideo traci znaczenie.
Jednak Plex Pass to nie tylko transcoding.
Daje hardware acceleration, offline downloads, skip intro/credits, Plexamp Pro i kilka innych przydatnych rzeczy. Bez tego sporo funkcji jest zablokowanych.
Osobiście używam z dużym zadowoleniem darmowej aplikacji Ugreen Theater, którą dostałem razem z NAS-em Ugreen.
Działa bez zarzutu, ma ładny interfejs, automatyczne plakaty, opisy itd. i co najważniejsze nie wymaga żadnego abonamentu.
