PS: Looking to invest in other generative ai projects with similarly addictive prosumption loops. 🎩
we are all very much aware of how social media is frying our attention span
what i think most people don't realize is how generative ai is even worse
the quality of generated text and images has frankly become insane, and the speed of it makes it so addictive
take midjourney for example
every time i dive into a session my brain gets overwhelmed by all the potential paths that are opening itself up before me
then the images are flowing in and i get one-shotted by the aesthetics of them
"this looks great, this one as well, damn, look at that!"
i start to hit reroll, remix, variation, 1 time, 2 times, 3 times, adding a another word, using results as references for the next prompt
an hour goes by, then another hour, and another, i'm in deep, looking at thousands of images
each result giving me a little dopamine hit, just enough to get me going
i look at the clock and suddenly it's 2am
"where the fuck did all that time go? i need to go to bed..."
but wait! just one more reroll!
i finally manage to let it go, dragging myself to bed
but sleep doesn't come easily
my brain somehow tries to connect thousand different visuals into something coherent
but i can't, all i see is blurry images getting diffused, over and over again, until i finally drift away into a sea of disconnected nothingness
the next morning my tired self promises to get to bed earlier
but it never happens
by lunchtime a stray idea sparks and i'm back prompting
afternoon blurs into the evening, then into night
each image draining a little more of that sweet sweet attention
until, eventually, nothing is left
