Tomorrow is February 29th.
The thought caused me to reflect on where I was last February 29th, narrowly escaping lockdown on the other side of the planet from my family.
I'm so grateful to @JedWatson, @thethinkmill, and all of @ReactConfAU for inviting me. I got to meet heroes like @markdalgleish, @mxstbr, @TejasKumar_, @DavidKPiano, @theKashey. π¦πΊππ¦
I try to tap into people's niche interests.
@mxstbr -> surf lesson in Manly
@kentcdodds -> hold a koala
Choose your adventure next time you come down, I'll see what I can do!
If you come down to Sydney, I'll personally drive you to the Koala Park!
You can also hand-feed kangaroos (cool) and emus (not cool), it's a pretty nice place.
Step 1: do your research on the sorts of smells and sounds koala produce
If you still want to hold:
Step 2: come talk at the next @ReactConfAU
Step 3: Drive to the Pennant Hills (Sydney) to the "Koala Park".
Step 4: Proceed to hold the koala. You can call it Kody if you want.
I got the job and two weeks later I ended up on the same team as @JessTelford and @JedWatson who I was already following on Twitter.
Next week it will be a year since I started and I'm still pinching myself!
In June last year I saw a tweet from @wilkowskidom saying the Thinkmill was looking for senior developers. I wasn't sure I was at senior level yet, but figured I'd apply anyway.
Being based in Port Macquarie I didn't really have a lot of options locally, in the back of my head I wanted to work remote for a place "like @thethinkmill" who I was aware of from all the great open source work they do along with @ReactConfAU and @reactsydney.
