Most everything is loaded into the GUI now. Here's a super rough mix anim of some of Utsuho's shapekeys (though it's kinda improper and muffles some but ok) Next time I know what to do to speed this up when I make a model with a lot.

My approach is layered. In general, I have to re-topologize the sections that grow, enhance the poly count -otherwise it will look jagged. Then it's making individual shapekeys to create equal and supportive growth. The shapes themselves use a mix of masking, proportional editing and many of the available tools in sculpting mode! I do same for the clothing.

Yup. For example, there's literally 0 shapekeys, drivers, or helper bones here in Suzy. Not even the band-aid has shapekeys. Just good old bone placement and proper topology.

back then i used to be SOOOO frustrated when there wasn't a Rabbid Mouth rig in the internet so i made my own and it looked like this monstrosity before i ripped rabbids coding and multiverse for the official mouth rigs

There's two kinds of splits, there's the front split and the side split, only the side split will cause issues (but even then, those issues can be resolved a few different ways with either a slightly more complex rig or shapekeys).

that is really weird.. UH.. last thing i can think of is going into playmode and then checking to see if any shapekeys/blendshapes get turned on automatically and trying to figure the issue out from there?? If there arent any then im not sure

theres a reason these are things are important to keep in mind because topology affects other things like rigging, uv unwrapping, texturing, etc. Also the sonic.exe model literally has VRC shapekeys so it was made to go into unity. the topology has to support those

Somebody who uses blender to animate and export to unity animations, tell me your workflow cause I'm gonna commit seppuku if I don't figure this out. For some reason shapekeys bake to every clip in the nla and I have no idea what is happening.
