Back in January of 2015 I had been a professional poker player for a bit, and I was making a consistently decent living for the last 3 years playing $5/$10 NL. Not bad, but not exactly enough to move up stakes with a family of 4 and a Disneyland habit to maintain.
The jump from mid-stakes to high stakes in Las Vegas at the time was pretty massive as well (it still largely is). The $10/$20NL played as $10/$20/$40 at least half the time. One thing I noticed was that the best $5/$10 games would be at the Wynn, Aria, or other casinos sprouting up randomly, but being at the Bellagio allowed me to scout when $10/$20 games were about to begin, so that's what I did. Occasionally getting into good $10/$20's but playing a worse $5/$10 game than I wanted.
Around 2013 poker waiting list applications became a thing and you could check what games were going and where. So I had a buddy of mine build me an application that interfaced with them and would send me a basic email if:
1. Any $5/$10 game or bigger started anywhere except Bellagio (where it ran every day)
2. Any game $10/$20 or higher started anywhere
3. Anytime a list of 7 or more formed for any of those games
I'd get an email alert on my phone whenever that happened. It was basic, but man...I started getting seats in these $10/$25NL games at the Wynn, or $5/$10 games at a spot like The Venetian or Caesars (these ones were incredible lol), and only a few pros, or none, would be in the mix. Plus the fish still had all of their buy-inš
I've still got the old alerts from the first week I started using it. I'll attach it to this post for nostalgia. It was like magic...and I didn't have to manually check any apps. I just had to be available to play or move casinos if I got an alert.
A game starts, I'd be at least in contention to get a seat. It affected my results in a big way. I at least doubled my hourly.
I no longer used it after 2018 when I found myself just playing the biggest games at Bellagio every day, but it was instrumental in my ascent up the stakes. So now I'm recreating it and offering it as a service with
