If I had a billion dollars, I would give away $900 million. I would give each of my kids, their significant others and my grandkids $3 million--that's $24 million for those interested. I would give myself $1 million. The other $75 million would be for office space and hiring employees whose only job would be to decide how to distribute the money. I would hire 10 teams of 5 people each--50 people. I would pay each $250,000 per year--$12.5 million in salary per year. Plus provide full health, dental, vision, et. al. insurance. I would give each employee 6 weeks paid vacation a year. This would be a 3-year contract.
And my only directive would be that each team had to distribute $1 million per week every week for that 3 years. Since the $900 million would be invested and drawing interest, there would be money left over at the end of the 3 years (including likely a decent sum from the office space/employee money). We would collectively decide where to distribute the remaining money. And then we could all look forward to our next adventures in life.
That's my grand plan. I have 7-10 years to make the billion. Another year to plan and prepare to launch my charitable initiative. Three years to execute it. Whatever time I have left on Earth then will be spent loving and enjoying time with my family, continuing to build my relationship with Jesus, doing volunteer work, inventing things, feeding my creative side, opening new businesses to employ and lift up more people, and starting conversations with random people I meet in the grocery store or at a restaurant or in a library or at a sporting event or while on a bike ride or walk or at church or wherever life takes me... because other people (all of you!) are inspiring!
Good night
