#STRask Did God pour out his wrath on Jesus while he was on the cross. I’ve heard that multiple times, but never read that in the bible

#STRask I heard a story of a Christian family in Bangladesh who have been repeatedly attacked for sharing the gospel. Now, radical Muslims are assaulting their young daughter to pressure them to stop evangelizing. As Christians, we are told to expect suffering and persecution. We are also to prioritize God above family and our own well-being. But, we are also to protect our children. So, should this family continue their evangelism?

#STRask Can you give a more detailed explanation of the passage where Jesus says, “It is written that you are called gods” (John 10:34–36)? It seems like he’s downplaying the fact that he’s God by comparing himself to those who are merely called gods. Greg and Amy answer. Listen now at shr.link/g3cxh.

As someone who’s been a Christian for approximately 35 years, I’m feeling very cold to evangelism and a deeper understanding of Scripture, and I’m looking for some advice on where to get started. Amy Hall responds on the May 21 #STRask, “You need to see the beauty of God and the gospel more clearly and let him change your desires as you see his beauty. There are different ways to do this—being in fellowship with other Christians, reading stories of Christians in the past, start a Bible reading discipline, observe what non-believers are going through without God, read about other religions. Stop putting pressure on yourself, step back, and look at God and let him rekindle the fire.” Greg Koukl adds, “Find some place where you could be regularly involved in the lives of people who have needs and serve. Think about serving as a servant of Christ serving other people. I‘m going to focus on my relationship with God by focusing on other people‘s needs and not my own frame of mind or dissatisfaction.”

#STRask Greg and Amy answer questions about the difference between believing and knowing from a biblical perspective, why it’s considered bad manners to ask for testable, repeatable evidence for the existence of gods, and why Christians don’t prove God exists by asking him to change carbon dioxide into hydrogen. “What I’m looking for is an inference to the best explanation. This is a way of reasoning where you look at a set of evidences regarding an issue and you ask what best explains these evidences.” — Greg Greg and Amy answer questions about our best answer when an atheist asks us to prove God exists, how God can be merciful and forgiving without the existence of fallen humanity, and why, if God is complete in himself and already receives glory from the angels, he would create us to witness his glory. How do we love those who hate us? In order to love those who hate us, you have to know what love is (see 1 John 5, for example). The catch is, when you’re loving others the way God wants you to love them, they will hate you, because they will not interpret that as love. That’s what makes real love so difficult. It means you continue to do what is best for them, even if they don’t think that’s what’s best for them. Love means not rejoicing in unrighteousness, but rejoicing with the truth. It means telling them about the bad news of their guilt and the good news of God’s grace. Hear more on the #STRask podcast. Listen at shr.link/yqvla.

Here are three challenges to persuading a Latter-day Saint or Jehovah’s Witness: 1. The spiritual darkness involved with both of those groups. Satan is a liar appearing as an angel of light. He has blinded the mind of the unbeliever and held him captive. 2. The social element. Both of these organizations have a strong, cohesive community. There are sanctions against thinking outside of the box. 3. The similar language. They tend to use the same terms as classical Christians, but mean different things. Amy Hall comments, “It’s as difficult and as easy for God to save them as anyone else. It’s always a spiritual problem, and God can change their hearts. Make your goal clarity, not persuasion. That takes a lot of the pressure off of you and off of them. Let the Holy Spirit move if he desires to move. Be confident he can change their hearts.” See today’s #STRask podcast for more.
