When I first started IT. I went on reddit to ask for help on how to get started in IT. A lot of people talked bad about comptia certs. Nothing but negative comments.
I decided to ignore them and ask my friends about IT that already worked in the field. I spend countless hours playing counter strike source. That is the only game that I have 14,000 hours of gameplay. I really loved CSS and playing on my old windows xp Vaio machine.
I talked to my veteran buddies on ventrilo about IT. They literally stand down with me and gave a clearer picture on different IT roles and certifications. Some of them worked for the department of defense. Some were on disability from the war. I learned a lot from them.
I started watching videos on professor messer and Mike Meyers and started studying my comptia a .
Took me a few tries but I managed to get that certification. I failed the exam twice but my CSS friends and family kept me motivated to keep going.
I eventually got hands on experience using virtual machines and upgrading machines to windows 7 at the school I went to study my comptia a .
Eventually, I landed a job as a field technician for the department of education.
My advice for new folks is try to get your foot in the door. This can be anything from volunteering or doing an internship. Always remember you learn the fundamentals before you go to advanced topics. Everyone starts at zero. Just remember that!
Build a portfolio on a medium website to showcase your experience.
Have a good Wednesday!

"Destroy first. Ask never." 💥
We’ve all met an "Ares" in the server room—someone who mistakes speed for progress and fixes a bug by deleting the entire infrastructure.
A reminder to myself and everyone: Action without understanding isn't heroism. It's just more work for Hephaestus. 🛠️☕

Interview tips:
1. Do research about the company.
2. Try to reached out to people at that company to learn more about the company. You can also use glassdoor and fishbowl.
3. Have questions to ask the hiring manager.
4. Look up the company core values and try to bring that to the Interview conversation.
5. Do mock interviews before the actual interview with a love one or someone at home.
6. Practice interviewing in a mirror.
7. Don't be afraid to negotiate salary.
8. Remember that just like their interviewing you. Your interviewing them. Try to see if that company is the right fit.
9. Try to make yourself stand out by having something you can share with the hiring manager. What helped my mentee get job is having a medium website with projects.
10. Remember that personality plays a big role when it comes to hiring. The manager wants to hire someone that is a team player and a person that meshes well with the team.
11. Figure out if the company has opportunities to grow into different roles or departments.
12. Ask if the company provides training and if they pay for training too like certifications.
Hopefully that helps. This is a good starting point for interview preps.

I got my first office helpdesk job working for an msp company.
This is where I learned the most in my career. They gave me access to servers, switches, rsa server, Bes 10 server, Palo alto, barracuda, etc.
I was lucky enough to shadow a system admin and learned as much as I can.
If you ever get an opportunity to shadow a tech. I recommend you take notes and ask a lot of questions.
I'm grateful to my manager for letting me learn and ask questions.
Msp companies are a great way to learn a lot working helpdesk. You not only get access to active directory. You get to do a wide range of stuff.
I love answering phone calls and helping customers over the phone. Some of my calls was helping people in Europe and Asia when I worked helpdesk.

For people that are new in IT. People that are already in the field do suffer from imposter syndrome.
That is normal. No matter how long you been in IT. You realize that it's impossible to know everything. Sometimes you make mistakes along the way when you try to learn.
It's okay to make mistakes. Embrace mistakes and learn from it. I have years in IT and I always learn something new everyday.
I love working with new folks trying to learn IT because they always have something to tech you. You can always learn from someone new like you can always learn from someone that has experience in the tech industry.
Keep learning! Happy Thursday!

We have a lot of gatekeepers in IT. Don't listen to them.
I remember when I failed my comptia a twice in a row. I wanted to give up. It was very discouraging. I didn't think IT was for me. I'm still here.
I remember when I started a YouTube channel. People made fun of me because of my accent. I'm still here.
I remember getting rejected over 100 times when I was new in IT. I ended up finding a job. I'm still here.
Don't let anyone label you as a failure. You got this. You have a community of people that want to see you win.
You can win but you need to believe in yourself.
See you at SF. Happy traveling! Happy Sunday!
