Mattson Tomlin has confirmed that #TerminatorZero will not continue beyond its first season.
He announced on X that the ambitious #Anime has been officially canceled despite strong creative support from Netflix. Tomlin praised @netflix as a great partner and cited the show’s high cost and time-intensive production as factors that required a larger audience to justify additional seasons, which ultimately did not materialize. Although Netflix offered a short wrap-up of two to three episodes, Tomlin declined, feeling that the story he envisioned, originally mapped across five seasons with a Future War arc planned for seasons two and three, was better left intact. He noted that season one’s ending felt thematically complete.
Produced with Skydance and animated by Production I.G, the eight-episode series debuted globally in August 2024, delivering a self-contained new chapter in the #Terminator universe that, while cut short, remains creatively whole by design.

The outpouring of love for Terminator Zero (easily the best Terminator project that isn't a video game or comic since T2) got me thinking today about how wonderful some of these Japanese/American Anime co-productions are. yes some are awful and ill judged but for every eye rolling one there is a fever dream collab. I still maintain that some of the Marvel Anime wasn't even that bad. I'll get my coat. Look I did say SOME.
Also: How beautiful and striking is this Japanese poster for the series? Reminds me of the black, white and red trend in comics.

It was cancelled. The critical and audience reception to it was tremendous, but at the end of the day not nearly enough people watched it. I would’ve loved to deliver on the Future War I had planned in season’s 2 and 3, but I’m also very happy with how it feels contained as is.
