#TheMedium... it really took me a while to finally play this game. Five years. I don't think I've ever played a game so demanding in terms of performance, not even Crysis 1. I finally finished it today, and I really enjoyed the story.
I truly appreciate the writers' courage in tackling such sensitive topics as domestic abuse and rape to tell a truly harrowing story, which is perfect for the survival horror genre.
The game, set in
#Poland in 1999, has a very well-focused atmosphere, narrative, and characters, particularly in its emotional tone, which is where it truly shines.
The notes, the echoes, Marianne's feelings translating and interacting with the environment are impeccable, and the transition between different planes of reality is an uncomfortable but perfect journey to empathize with her and experience what she has to suffer throughout this story.
But oh my god, the performance... I've had drops as low as 40 FPS or even 25FPS! (and that's saying something, considering that performance usually drops A LOT when the screen splits in two) in a bunker that doesn't even have half the graphical rendering of Night City in Cyberpunk.
It's incredible how poorly optimized the Unreal Engine can be, and I thank God
#BlooberTeam didn't mess it up with SH2, which was where they really shone.
For many years I've had mixed feelings about The Medium, but today I'm happy to know that I enjoyed its story and characters. But if a sequel ever comes out... for the love of all that is beautiful in the WORLD, OPTIMIZE YOUR GAMES IN UNREAL ENGINE BETTER! Thank you very much!
