Brothers and sisters (my fellow Latter-day Saints), I sustain every word from our living prophets on this topic. The Church is clear: previously existing tattoos do not bar anyone from full fellowship or all of God’s blessings. At the same time, I’ve felt strongly about the spirit behind the counsel — that our bodies truly are temples. When someone who has reached a deep level of conversion still feels self-conscious about a tattoo showing (especially in the temple), I don’t believe the answer is to reassure them they don’t need to feel that way. I believe that discomfort is the Holy Ghost whispering, ‘This is no longer who you are. Will you let Me help you remove it?’ So rather than validating the choice to keep it, I hope we can lovingly encourage one another… if the Spirit is prompting you, please prayerfully consider removal. The Savior’s Atonement makes every step possible, and He will guide you personally. If Latter-day Saints are truly serious about thinking celestial, it can’t stay abstract. It requires laying down pride, ego, and the reflexes of the natural man — and then actually living differently. Thinking celestially will inspire us to act celestially. Enoch and his people didn’t become a Zion people overnight. It took 365 years of steady conviction, covenant faithfulness before the Lord translated the city. Unity wasn’t rhetoric. It was practiced. I sense that many who belong to @Ch_JesusChrist long for that kind of society — no rich, no poor, hearts knit together. At the same time, people everywhere feel the strain of class division. Many labor tirelessly with good intent, yet remain burdened by debt and circumstance. Maybe the real question is this: what does Zion look like in daily choices?
