l tried so hard to rescue a toad tonight but it was a dangerous turning and I couldn’t stop safely. I couldn’t get there in time to find it in the dark 😭😭

Latecomers to the ball, this pair of #toads were stuck in a road drain until we rescued them this afternoon and took them to their breeding pond.
Last night there were many toads leaving the pond after spawning, whilst other toads were still heading to the pond #toadsonroads

These incredible amphibians travel the same route each year to breeding ponds as they’re ancestral relatives, this can cause issues for the amphibians with new developments or road crossings. The #toadsonroads initiative was set up to aid the toads crossing busy roads.

Before the craziness of #ToadsOnRoads begins, we wanted to share with you what our Toad Patrols achieved in 2024:
• 134,532 toads were rescued from road mortality
• A record number of patrols returning data (247)
• A record number of new patrols registered (74)

A huge thank you to Walton on the Hill #ToadPatrol for raising £155 for us at their village's May Pageant!
They sold handmade crafts (made by one of their youngest patrollers, Emily), spread the word about #ToadsOnRoads & signed up new volunteers! Amazing work!
