MY SUGGESTION TO UPSC FOR CIVIL SERVICES EXAM
This year there is reportedly a new type of preliminary exam questions and this has resulted in a lot of speculation on the cut-off mark for the current year. Many candidates reportedly are worried.
Normally UPSC has been calling candidates for written exam numbering 12 to 13 times of the number of vacancies and reportedly last year about 14,500 candidates were selected for written exam .
When prelim pattern was not in vogue , and everyone wrote the written exam. at the most 30,000 candidates wrote the written exam. And our system was geared to handle this volume.
My suggestion for this year is -- in view of the perceived difficult questions set for prelim, UPSC should lower the cut off substantially and let about 30,000 candidates take the written exam .
This might enable many bright candidates to appear in the written test and consequently we may get brighter officers for the civil service.
Evaluating 30,000 candidates' performance is not a big issue but it could be more fair and broad based.
I hope UPSC will consider this suggestion.
