Are you familiar with the Ford Styleside pickup truck? Ford decided to make an integrated body—like the body-on-frame design we see on passenger cars of the era—that bolted to the frame of certain F-100 trucks made between 1961 and 1963. In this article we look into why this decision was made, and the pros and cons of integrated body pickups. Click the pic for the full story ⬇️ hagerty.com/media/advice/pis…

All the people saying that Toyota only beat privateer teams at Le Mans are pretty quiet today 😉 Toyota has earned its sixth (and arguably most significant) victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans this weekend, and British privateer team TF Sport took first place in the GT3 class with a Corvette Z06 GT3.R in a close battle. We out here driving doohickeys This is the 1967 Gyro-X, a two-wheeled car that can seemingly defy the laws of physics by balancing itself, even while stationary. Born from the minds of stylist Alex Tremulis and gyroscope expert Thomas Summers, the Gyro-X as you may have guessed, uses a gyroscope system to maintain balance. Under the hood is an 80 horsepower Mini Cooper S engine, but just behind that sits a large gyroscope system connected to the chassis that can tilt left and right on its axis in order to balance the car when stationary or driving straight, as well as being able to lean the car into a corner like a motorcycle. As you can see from the end of the video, it doesn't always work exactly as intended, but it is still a wildly impressive thing to see. Now the question of course is, why? Well, the idea came about as a solution to high fuel consumption. The thinking was simple really. Reduce the frontal area of a car as much as possible, thus lowering aerodynamic resistance and increasing fuel economy. And you can't really make a car much narrower than this. As was the case with so many concepts from this era, the Gyro-X was nearly lost to time, but was fully restored by its current caretakers at the @LaneMotor Museum in Nashville, Tennessee.

Hans Werner Aufrecht was one of the two original founders of AMG. (He's the "A"). But after the company was sold to Mercedes in the 1990s, he set up again on his own with another three-letter outfit, this time bearing all three of his initials. For the last quarter of a century, HWA has been quietly running Mercedes' DTM program, and building some of their most special cars like the CLK GTR and SL65 Black Series. But now, they've set out to build a car with their own name proudly on display, the HWA EVO. And on the latest episode of The Driver's Seat, @HenryCatchpole gets behind the wheel of the prototype, and gets a front-row seat to the daunting Nurburgring 24 hour race, where three race-ready EVO.R variants went out to prove their worth. Chevrolet hasn’t put a big-block in a Corvette since 1974. There are some good reasons behind that decision, but that didn't stop Larry Hofer's multi-year project of fitting an 8.1-liter V-8 in his C8 💪 Click the pic for more info ⬇️ hagerty.com/media/car-profil…
