@galtons_sextant said 70% are literate (=30% are illiterate). His original screenshot said 20% are at or below second grade level. If 10% of the remaining 80% are also illiterate, this adds up. (3rd grade level is close to illiterate too, if you ask me)

Once you accept science, you can use it to conclude that the tendency for honesty within an ingroup developed through Darwinian processes. That makes it consistent, but it's not technically proof.

Fear is the last resort. Having to go there, means I failed in the first 3. But to protect both my child and the bully, if no other intervention works, knowing (even fearing) that bad actions lead to bad consequences is often better than continuing the bad behaviour.

Even then, it's very rare that physical punishment is needed. Children and environments are different. Some are watched and protected by all times by care-givers, others must live in the streets all day when their parents are working double shifts. These may have a thicker skin.
