I don't think it has to do with money. Starting pitching is at a premium now and even if there's no roster spot for him they could probably flip him for a prospect or two. I think they were confident after his rehab that he'll come back strong.

He hasn't pitched since 2021 and was hurt before that also. Guards development must just think he's just washed.
