Excited to share our upcoming @tpdl2022 paper on "The Rise of GitHub in Scholarly Publications" TL;DR? GitHub is increasingly being referenced in scholarly publications which emphasizes the need to archive GitHub repositories for reproducibility arxiv.org/abs/2208.04895

Want to view archived instagram posts of the Disinformation Dozen? @haleybragg17 found that unfortunately only 1.05% of mementos are replayable with complete post images! What happened to the other 99%? Almost all (96.13%) of the mementos redirect to the log in screen.
Now, @haleybragg17 is presenting her study (mentor: @weiglemc) Traces of Disinformation on Instagram". Why @instagram: More engagement, audience, and harder to archive. @oducsreu @WebSciDL @NirdsLab @oducs @oducs @NSF #oducsreu

To expand on this work and understand how well disinformation campaigns are archived on Instagram, I am creating a script to determine how many captures of the Disinformation Dozen accounts replay well vs how many redirect to the Instagram login page. #DisInfoREU2022 @oducsreu
Replying to @HimarshaJ
Twitter is well-archived, Facebook is not well-archived as compared to Twitter, but they're both miles ahead of Instagram.

For my REU project, I plan to replicate and expand on the archival analysis that Himarsha performed on Katy Perry’s Instagram. I will be evaluating the group of anti-vaxx content creators known as the Disinformation Dozen. #DisInfoREU2022 @oducsreu
If @katyperry’s @Instagram, with 107M followers, is not well-archived, what hope is there for the rest of us? #webarchiving #Instagram @WebSciDL @InternetArchive @RhizomeConifer and a very happy first-anniversary for #WebArchiveWednesday ws-dl.blogspot.com/2020/11/2…

It’s already more difficult to analyze disinformation campaigns on Instagram than on other social media platforms. Without CrowdTangle, Instagram’s disinformation problem will only get worse. #DisInfoREU2022 @oducsreu
It's hard to overstate how much of a disaster it'd be for fact-checkers and reporters if Meta ditched its research tool CrowdTangle for good. My list of stories where it helped our team pick up key misinformation narratives and patterns is very long. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

“For the third year in a row, Twitter is the most expensive platform to manipulate and Instagram is the cheapest.” bit.ly/3NS4HZl It’s time to take a closer look at disinformation on Instagram. #DisInfoREU2022 @oducsreu

Even if individual companies are improving their fake news combat efforts, our analysis shows that social media manipulation continues to be cheap and effective - antagonists exploit social media loopholes to manipulate public discussions. Read more 👉 bit.ly/3NS4HZl
