Honored to join a distinguished panel of stakeholders to share experiences on 'Navigating the transition out of protracted #conflict'. I made a case for 'holistic responses' and 'national ownership' in #peacebuilding interventions to ensure sustainable #peace. #PCRD #Agenda2063
Rich exchange at #CCCPA #FragilityForum session “Navigating Transition out of Protracted #Conflict.” Insightful national, regional & global perspectives on need for strong institutions, inclusion & partners taking greater risks in #FCV contexts & not to wait for perfect moment.

Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso withdrawing from ECOWAS amounts to a colossal act of economic self-sabotage. Isolating yourself from your closest neighbours amid an epic economic crisis is profoundly unwise, and unfortunately, ordinary citizens, who are led to believe this action serves their interests, will be the primary victims. Moreover, these countries lack an alternative to ECOWAS. This imprudent decision was driven solely by the narrow, narcissistic ego of the military juntas holding these nations hostage.

Very worrisome developments with Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger withdrawal from ECOWAS. This, if effective, will have severe repercussions on intraregional trade, citizens of these 3 landlocked countries living in other West African countries, greater isolation & more. In shock.

It is hard for anyone who hasn’t been to Niger lately to fathom how incredibly brutal/damaging the ECOWAS sanctions have been, primarily on populations - cash shortage, hyper inflation, businesses closed, informal sector completely destabilized, humanitarian crises. It is hard.

ECOWAS’ leadership failure has given juntas arguments for all sorts of unilateral decisions with far reaching consequences. With that said, greater isolation will further hurt populations & already weakened economies. Geopolitics in W. Africa as we knew it is being rewritten
