SF 494, the terrible SNAP/Medicaid bill passed the House Appropriations Committee this morning. It's horrific that Iowa kids and families will lose access to food and health care if this bill passes the #ialegis. Check out this 🧵from @amierrivers for key clips of the debate.

Rep. @MatsonForHouse notes Iowa is paying federal taxes for SNAP benefits, and would lose money by restricting it.
Notes SNAP has "economic multiplier effect."
"It means they won't be able to spend it in our local community grocery stores and other small businesses."

It's a frustrating-early-childhood news day in Iowa. Iowa is poised to give up $30 million in federal funds available to our state to serve young children and their families, in a last-minute decision by the Governor and Iowa Dept. of Health and Human Service officials.
