ALT Researching in a world on fire: what are we doing? This panel is a reflection on the role of academics in a world that is facing multiple crises. Participants share an interest in rethinking research and teaching to overcome the multiple, overlapping harms that academia perpetuates. To that end, papers accept that the current research model is harmful, and look to explore alternative ways of teaching, researching, engaging with people, and travelling in the context of climate change and global injustices. We are interested in papers that explore and complicates questions along the lines of: 1. How can research be decarbonised? 2. What is the relationship between decarbonisation and decolonisation? 3. How can teaching better reflect the world as it is? 4. Can the academy be decarbonised? 5. How do the pressures of academia perpetuate harmful practices, and can we resist them?
