D.C. government workers report getting stuck in elevators, plummeting floors, and needing doors pried open at the Marion S. Barry Jr. Building. DGS says it’s fixed, but many still opt for stairs. Read more—including some amusing, if troubling emails. buff.ly/48NhszR
#BreakingNews - Longtime DC activist and community Ward 8 leader Phillip Pannell says he is launching a write-in campaign for the Ward 8 Council seat, asking all Ward 8 leaders to demand Council member Trayon White resign in the wake of his arrest on bribery charges.
#TrayonWhiteArrest - The Ward8 Councilmember was arrested Sunday at 10K, a luxury apartment bldg at S. Capitol St and K SE. Residents there say he’s frequently used or even lived in an expensive penthouse apt there [not his ward] quite a while. Here’s a brief video of FBI raid.
New: Amidst all the other news out there, Anita Bonds has been mounting a pressure campaign on elections officials to kill Initiative 83.
She’s hassled BOE employees over recent decisions, held up appointees and even is contemplating expanding the board: washingtoncitypaper.com/arti…
Here's a good thing happening in DC: @seaburysays, which provides services to seniors (and I'm a board member), has completed a deal to make 180 units of housing at its property in Ward 3 ALL AFFORDABLE through DCHA vouchers. Join me there & learn more: seaburyresources.org/events
We'll be popping up at the Minnesota Avenue Farm Stand this Thursday to hear what information residents want and need. Hope to see you there!

The federal charges against Councilmember Trayon White are deeply disturbing. Notwithstanding the principle that a person is innocent until proven guilty, the allegations, together with the government’s affidavit, are a gut punch to the public trust in the Council. (1/2)
New: DC's youth probation agency can't keep track of kids in its care. Many are re-arrested or even killed. Employees blame a dysfunctional work environment.

Here's some more information on what we're doing with the money:
ALT We are floored by this flood of support. Thank you for your donations, your shares on social media, and your encouraging messages. We can’t wait to make this happen with all of you.
As a little treat at the end of a long day of supporting local news, here’s some more info about how your donations are helping us create an ambitious, community-centered, worker-led organization.
We’ll use your money to:
Grow our team: Six people can’t possibly represent the breadth of D.C. Our budget for the year includes funds to pay freelance writers and photographers to tell D.C.’s stories. In doing so, we’ll prioritize building a newsroom that reflects the city we want to serve, especially native residents and D.C.’s Black and immigrant communities. Our ideal budget next year creates more staff positions. If we exceed our fundraising goals, we can add more people sooner. Our priority is paying a fair wage and providing a sustainable and balanced work schedule for everyone.
ALT Put together a steering committee: Before we begin publishing, we’ll take time to shape our operations in collaboration with residents. A successful fundraiser will mean we can start recruiting a steering committee of community members to guide priorities and processes for our initial operations.
Work with community information organizers: Writers and editors won’t be the entirety of this operation. We’ll also partner with connected community members to facilitate neighborhood events, listening sessions, and feedback groups. These opportunities to hear from you IRL are central to making sure our stories reflect you and the D.C. you love.
Pay for our newsroom’s infrastructure: It costs money to register a business, host a website, create a newsletter, set up an HR apparatus, and make a budget and a business plan – not to mention write and edit the stories. We’ve been an entirely volunteer team paying for this stuff out of our pockets up to now. We’re so deeply appreciative.
just to recap: Scotus this term has said the president is king, the administrative state is dead, and bribing public officials is ok. The justices have created a powderkeg, where people can't solve their problems through the government or hold anyone in charge accountable.
