Among all the distant reading tools I've explored, Voyant Tools stands out as my favorite. Its user-friendliness, comprehensive documentation, straightforward interface, and data export capability is top notch 👌🏼

Recently I learned Palladio for network analysis. It really helps in visualizing how different attributes in our data are connected. hdlab.stanford.edu/palladio/ #NetworkAnalysis #ENGL256BF23

Topic modeling a concept learned in my DH course, transforms gender studies in literature by shifting from traditional analysis to a data-driven approach. A useful tool for with would be MALLET #ENGL256BF23

I created a corpus of 6 plays by Lillian Hellman. After converting them to plain text, removing metadata & page numbers, I explored themes and pattern by looking for concordances, clusters and keywords using digital tools 🧹 #ENGL256BF23

Mapping in DH is a journey into redefining 'place.' It challenges traditional cartographic power dynamics and reshapes our narrative of time and place in humanist studies. #ENGL256BF23

Thrilled to share a glimpse of the engaging class activity where we crafted a timeline of Lillian Hellman's life, blending it with contemporary feminist memes. It sparked insightful discussions on the persistence of gender issues. #LillianHellman #GenderStudies #ENGL256BF23

I watched "Toys in the Attic" based on Lillian Hellman's play. As a psych student, I totally enjoyed it I don't get it why the play isn't popular. It greatly portrays gendered power dynamics, emotional fulfillment and autonomy. #ENGL256BF23 youtu.be/9QmAkJ2Trf8?si=GlWD…

In #ENGL256BF23 class, we explored Susan Glaspell's "Trifles". I played the sheriff, a male dominant character! the play portrays the undervaluation of women in society. The men expect women to focus on 'trifles' and doubt their capability to solve the crime. very intriguing

Copyright is an invisible superhero cape for creators, protecting the original works from being copied or shared without permission. But it's not forever; it lasts a lifetime 70 years. There's #FairUse that lets us use some works for criticism & in education #ENGL256BF23

Thinking of DH, gender & theater, I saw parallels between the suppression of voices in plays & in reality. The sidelining of women on stage, psychological spaces & areas of power echoes Israel's cruel dehumanization & killing of Palestinian women on real life stage.

Despite using digital tools such as apps, websites, and online resources, we are unable to aid humanity but watch helplessly like audiences except we are witnesses of genocide.. Think about data, mapping, power of language use, tone difference from both sides.

As for archives, can they be useful tools in the struggle for decolonization and liberation? or at least remembering the martyrs' names & honoring them? I just wonder where is the digital use for humanity and where is the humanity use of digital tools #DH #ENGL256BF23
