Hardest part of entering DEEP work is to begin.
It's SO hard that, instead of beginning, you:
- check your email
- check your notifications
- oh, that amazon delivery you were expecting?
But I discovered a hack.
Right before you enter deep work, start with a repetitive or no-brainer task RELATED TO that deep work.
Example:
Let's say you'll start creating an ebook.
Rather than forcing yourself to write its contents right away, start by:
- setting up pages
- creating chapter outlines
- setting up the typography
⭐️ One caveat: set a timer so you don't give ALL of your time to these tasks. (Because it will be tempting to do so).
A pomodoro session (25 min) is probably enough for all of these.
Once you get all "warmed up," it will feel easier to start creating.
Even then, don't expect to come up with the perfect & final version right away.
Start with a shitty first draft. If need be, remind yourself out loud: "This is just a shitty fist draft. I'm fine."
At this stage, your only job is to "vomit" content on pages. That's how creative pipes are cleared out and better work starts flowing.
Enter: flow state. As known as, deep work.
