A school building was damaged after the Junta carried out an airstrike on Phar Kwin Village, Kaw Ma Pyin Village Tract, Tanintharyi Township, Myeik District, according to local residents and the Karen National Union (KNU).
At around 2:00 p.m. on May 22, a junta jet fighter attacked Phar Kwin Village, dropping two 500-pound bombs inside the village. One school building was damaged in the attack.
“There are ongoing clashes because the soldiers are trying to set up their base again at Kyauk Lone Gyi. But there was no fighting happening in Phar Kwin Village when the bombs were dropped,” said a local resident.
Fighting is currently taking place between junta troops and resistance forces near the military base in Kyauk Lone Gyi Village. Residents from Kyauk Lone Gyi have reportedly been forced to flee their homes because of the clashes.
On June 15, 2024, resistance forces seized the Aung Thar Wa Ra military camp located along the Tanintharyi River. One day later, junta troops began abandoning the Kyauk Lone Gyi camp and fleeing the area.
However, on June 19, junta forces advanced again with large reinforcements and reoccupied the Kyauk Lone Gyi base, according to resistance sources.
The airstrike on Phar Kwin Village, where no fighting was reported at the time, has raised serious concerns for civilians and children in surrounding communities, as schools and other civilian spaces continue to face direct threats from junta attacks.
