I rarely post here now but want to publicise the lengthy blog post I've written explaining why I think @edintfest 's decision (announced in last wk's Members newsletter) to open booking for selected events before full 2026 prog is published is mistaken: wheresrunnicles.com/2025/11/…

I also think in worrying about the real world political implications of the exodus we need to remember degree to wch Twitter reflects voters varies hugely - the Musk version did reflect a majority in the US election, it was far from that in the UK election.

It's also not yet clear to me how much influence the Musk Twitter really had in the US election. For many reasons (incl ego) he wants that influence to be big but I think we need more info on how and why voters decided before we can confirm that conclusion.

I’ve always been sceptical about the EIF’s opening event (a comparatively recent addition) so losing it doesn’t much trouble me. Cutting back the Usher Hall programme is far more worrying: scotsman.com/arts-and-cultur…

Can’t say I’m terribly excited by the prospect of a new Orfeo & Eurydice an opera I’ve never managed to really love.
