Very sad news that Steve O’hear passed away. After my spinal cord injury, Steve was the first journalist I spoke to. As I re-read that interview, he called me a “relative newbie” to being disabled. I think that sums him up. Steve had a real knack for needling you whilst also making you smile. He was not only a great journalist but also a great friend. I know so many of our community will miss him dearly. Rest In Peace Steve. I’ll miss you buddy.

Exciting new development by the @incident_io team. Love seeing their pace of development!
We’ve just launched @incident_io On-call and I couldn’t be more excited! 🎉 Our goal was “so good, you’ll break things on purpose” and we’ve poured our hearts and souls into this one. I think it shows ❤️

Great @ycombinator video by @mwseibel & @daltonc about one of the mistakes we made a lot of in the early days @gocardless. Focus your innovation on what matters to your customer, don’t spread it around! youtu.be/FNwu440UxhU?si=EI_t…

The govt deserves a lot of kudos for this. We narrowly averted disaster for many tech start ups that will hopefully one day power our economy. Given the circumstances this is the best possible outcome. Many founders are feeling very relieved this morning. Now back to building!
This morning, the Government and the Bank of England facilitated a private sale of Silicon Valley Bank UK to HSBC Deposits will be protected, with no taxpayer support I said yesterday that we would look after our tech sector, and we have worked urgently to deliver that promise

This is a great articulation of my personal rule #1 to leadership
8 Sep 2022
When I first started out in my career, I thought I had to “fake it until you make it.” Later I learned to ask questions and embrace situations where I didn’t have all the answers. Here's how I went from being an insecure manager to a more honest leader:

Also particularly excited to be accelerating free access to open banking data services to the market. This will help more businesses to experiment and find new use cases for open banking as this technology develops over the coming years.

An entire generation of entrepreneurs & tech investors built their entire perspectives on valuation during the second half of a 13-year amazing bull market run. The "unlearning" process could be painful, surprising, & unsettling to many. I anticipate denial. Some thoughts:

Another common question I’m answering working with scaling tech companies is… Q. What’s the worst leadership advice you’ve heard? A. By far the worst is “Hire great people and get out of their way”. Let me explain… 🧵 (1/32)

Super excited to have @PermiraNews & @BlackRock_UK join our journey to become the world’s bank pay network! It feels like an incredible validation of what we’ve built so far, but more importantly of the opportunity ahead of us. Still so much to build! gocardless.com/blog/gocardle…

The toughest part of growing Segment from $0-200M ARR was letting go of product (which I understood) to focus on go-to-market (which I didn't). In 2017 I was really struggling with this. Five friends set me straight, a thread. 1/12

Great to share the stage with @kolovson at #websummit to talk about scaling @GoCardless & @faire_wholesale. Apparently it managed to keep my 1yo daughter occupied for more than 5 mins so we must have done something right!
