CWS Bill Report Stage in HOL. Can't help but be annoyed that gov seem to think that, even though parents pay taxes that fund schools, home educators should not expect assistance to access exams. Tightfisted when it suits! parliamentlive.tv/event/inde…

The government recently refused to help home ed families get better local access to sit exams. With extra cost and bureaucracy in the CSW Bill linked to home ed & Budget cuts, will more schools/centres be forced to deny families/children this basic right? schoolsweek.co.uk/home-educa…

LA's seem to have great difficulty knowing how to do their jobs properly, even when they have all the power they need. Badly written law inept LA's is a recipe for harm and harassment. We need to stop the CWS Bill now!

Today’s LCSP review: Sara Sharif’s murder was committed by her father and not prevented due to serious LA safeguarding errors. Home education was not to blame. Yet the same overstretched LAs will now oversee new home-ed registers. Will this prevent harm or cause more errors?

"Buried inside the Children’s [...] Bill lies the blueprint for Starmer’s surveillance state. [It] convert[s] every child’s NHS number into a digital tag linking their school records, medical[...]and family details into one government-controlled network" citizengo.org

I don’t get this concept of us parents being ‘out of pocket’ by giving our own children breakfast. Isn’t feeding our own kids a basic premise of parenting responsibility, why would any parent regard themselves ‘out of pocket’ for doing so🤔
Parents shouldn’t be out of pocket by setting their children up for school. That’s why we are rolling out free breakfast clubs and from next September, schools will be required to limit branded items of uniform. Saving families £500 and giving kids the best start in life.

I had the joy of joining the @stopthecwsbill protest yesterday in London. @UKLabour want to dismiss the march as "sparsely attended", but remember that for each one that attended, there are at least 10,000 people who feel the same! #AreYouListeningNow /1

At least 4 barristers (and I know of a 5th) have provided legal opinions that confirm that the Children's Wellbeing & Schools Bill is discriminatory, and could be challenged legally if it passes as is. Take off the blinkers and earplugs and start listening @bphillipsonMP . /2

Pushing the Children's Wellbeing & Schools Bill through is political suicide for @UKLabour . You may want to rethink, unless you really don't want another term after this one. Prattling on about #FreeSchoolBreakfast and #schooluniform is fooling no-one. @bphillipsonMP .

IMPORTANT! There's currently no checks and balances to protect families from ultra vires LA behaviour. If this Bill becomes law, there still won't but stakes will be higher with prison if home ed families don't comply with bullying LAs @Keir_Starmer @bphillipsonMP @_RobbieMoore

It's time to pause and reflect on the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill, contravenes ECHR Article 14 according to KC Aiden O'Neill. Read more in the long version of my speech below and repost to your local MP/Peer and Advisors. (5/5) tinyurl.com/ProtectHE @LabourList

It is a matter of historic record that when Parliament passed the Education Act of 1944, it deliberately safeguarded the right of parents — not the state — to determine their children’s education, as a bulwark against totalitarianism. (4/5) @LabourList

Agreed. We must be so careful in commodifying children as assets, eroding the importance of childhood in and of itself, not as a hothouse for a future we can neither predict nor control. Parents feel it deeply. Children and teens need the chance to be present, to explore, develop, experiment, fail, evolve, play, think, rest, thrive. EYFS is not about school readiness. School readiness is not about industrialised employment. It’s about so much more. When we only focus on the destination, we lose sight of the value and importance of the journey itself.
This is very depressing. There is something almost dystopian-like about preparing nursery children for the ‘future workforce’ 😢

I believe that home educators are at the cutting edge of understanding how children learn, and the power of self-directed learning. Find out more at Learn Free Home Educators Conference, coming up next week! learnfree.org.uk/

Not sure who the MP is who is looking to socialist Europe for ways to regulate #homeeducation ... He quotes no evidence for his claims. Home educated children are not required to be imprisoned during the day. @NickFletcherMP #PetitionsDebate

Turns out it’s @AndrewSelous. Pretty clear he has not met with home educators in his constituency to hear their views. Some comments downright insulting to home educators. So done with this kind of prejudice towards home educators!
