Agreed.
We must be so careful in commodifying children as assets, eroding the importance of childhood in and of itself, not as a hothouse for a future we can neither predict nor control.
Parents feel it deeply. Children and teens need the chance to be present, to explore, develop, experiment, fail, evolve, play, think, rest, thrive.
EYFS is not about school readiness. School readiness is not about industrialised employment. It’s about so much more.
When we only focus on the destination, we lose sight of the value and importance of the journey itself.
This is very depressing. There is something almost dystopian-like about preparing nursery children for the ‘future workforce’ 😢
