Joffre Lakes is one of the places I visit every year. As a proud Canadian, I want to enjoy and admire the beauty of our province and our country. But the NDP‘s approach under DRIPA is creating more conflict, not reconciliation. Now we are seeing yet another major resource project tied up in court because of the uncertainty this government has created. At a time when British Columbia desperately needs jobs, investment, and economic growth, we are building our own barriers to prosperity. Whether it’s public park closures or major projects stalled for years, British Columbians are paying the price for a government that cannot balance Indigenous consultation with the broader public interest. It‘s no surprise that nearly 70,000 people left British Columbia last year. People and businesses are looking elsewhere for certainty, opportunity, and leadership. A productive meeting with Richmond Hospital and Vancouver Coastal Health to hear updates on the Richmond Hospital redevelopment project and the future of health care in our city. Glad to hear the project is still moving forward, although potential delays remain possible. Another update is expected in August. I also raised concerns regarding mental health, the toxic drug crisis in Richmond, as well as preparedness for FIFA and potential public health risks such as hantavirus. Today marks one year since the tragic incident at the Lapu Lapu Day festival in Vancouver. It left a deep and lasting loss for the victims, their families, the Filipino community, and all British Columbians. I still remember that day clearly. The parade in the morning, the street lined with booths, and the many food trucks. It was full of joy and laughter. But just hours later, tragedy struck. When I returned to the scene that night, it was something that cannot be unseen and will not be forgotten. My thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the entire community.
