With the current debate between @GeorgeMonbiot and @AllanRSavory leaving folk on both sides struggling to feel heard (including me) I thought I’d try and explain a bit more about why the grazing GM refers to and the grazing AS refer to are not the same - bear with me! 🧵 1/20
Really interesting first Kelso Agricultural Discussion Society meeting of the winter last night, the main take away was from @howemill -'It's easier to make an efficient herd big than a big herd efficient' - something that could apply to any type of farming business

I’ve been interested in the responses to @JoeWStanley’s recent post.
I’m not a parent so don’t really have much more to add, but I do find it odd that many responses seem to suggest that if kids aren’t working on farm the only alternative they can imagine is rotting indoors?
“To see members of our own industry, and even a respected farming publication, lend weight to his words without scrutiny reflects a dangerous erosion of critical thinking and public responsibility.” 2/3
“If we don’t start questioning the voices we choose to amplify, even when they suit our agenda, what does that say about our values, and how easily we might be led?” 3/3
Really looking forward to @FieldsGood_ni in a months time - my first trip to Northern Ireland. Loads of talks, workshops and farmer focused stuff at only £50 a ticket. Even the fabulous @howemill talking grazing with her warm up act @herdyshepherd1fieldsgood.co.uk/tent/plenar…
Something very different for us today…
We gathered most of the hill this week, still got a bit left to do but with a team that hadn’t covered that ground before it was an impressive effort!
Today we were checking ewes and marking lambs, very happy with how they are all doing.

@howemill Not sure there's many people out there doing as much for Grass fed cattle as Nikki and James Yoxall. Always good to catch up. Very grateful that they see some value in what we do. 🙏🏻
Making the most of cooler temperatures this evening to move the mob - along the river, through the woods, over the drumlins and into their next field! 🌱
