This is a great thread that I mostly agree with. But I want to point out that it's important to read more than white/mainstream pubs that monopolize *impact* views (NYT, P4K, etc). XXL still has decent trend/critical writing on occasion. Here's an example. xxlmag.com/female-rappers-al…

even now, I think it's under appreciated that every single year the XXL Freshman Class still manages to inflame rap fans, many of whom weren't even sentient when it first debuted, despite nobody really paying attention to XXL at any other point in the calendar

KA is one of the most unique artists I've encountered in any idiom, from his methodology and approach to his craft to his voice. His sudden passing is a stunning and tragic loss.

Oh, that's fucking terrible news. Awful. RIP, Mike. You were one of the good ones.

Rest in peace to my friend and former Bay Guardian/Rhapsody colleague Mike McGuirk, who passed away on Wednesday, June 17. He'll be missed. instagram.com/p/C9k0ApJRrZt/…

This is tough to read. Thank you Jill for giving me a second chance to shine after my first P4K run went disastrously viral. I'll be forever grateful for that. Looking forward to seeing what you cook up next.
I've referred to my job at pitchfork as being on a ferris wheel at closing time, just waiting for them to yank me down. after nearly 8 yrs, mass layoffs got me. glad we could spend that time trying to make it a less dude-ish place just for GQ to end up at the helm
