In Honor of Black History Month, we wanted to tell a piece of our history. Did you know that Hunter is named for an African American educator, Lucille Hunter?

Her career in Wake County continued until her death in 1926. In 1927, Lucille Hunter Elementary School opened its doors. Mrs. Hunter is the first black female to have a school named after her in North Carolina.
