World Cup teams have mandated “community sessions” that are mainly exclusive ticketed events. Algeria’s community session was a real one, where the community was invited and now, children in the KC metro get to say they’ve played with international soccer stars.

Incredibly grateful to @iMEdD_org for prioritizing this panel on disability as part of the International Journalism Forum. As disability advocates say, “Nothing about us, without us.” Newsrooms can and must do better for disabled audiences and employees.
2022 RJI Fellow @hwise29 spoke about her fellowship project Disability Matters on an international panel in Greece yesterday! Love to see our fellows being recognized globally and helping people all over the world 🗺️🏆 tinyurl.com/ytuzn7zw

We need to stop depicting mobility aids as a sign/symbol of inability to be or do something. My mobility aids aren't a sign I'm incapable of doing a job or living a full life. They give me the opportunity to do my job, to live a full life.

It was a pleasure to speak with @NCNewsWorks about Disability Matters and what journalists can do to improve coverage and accessibility. Thank you for taking the time to mark the 33rd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act for your readers!
For today’s #ADA anniversary & #DisabilityPrideMonth, this week’s #NCLocal features an in-depth conversation with @hwise29 & all the excellent info & resources for newsrooms in her Disability Matters toolkit, created for an @RJI fellowship. Dive in here: mailchi.mp/localnewslab/nc-l…

The @kcstar journalists are top tier. Especially proud of the audience team’s creative, community-centered approach to connecting readers with the news they need. Couldn’t do any of this without @gregfarmerKC’s leadership and support. Be on a team that inspires you 💖

For those following along at home, common chemotherapy drugs that folks with chronic conditions and kids with cancer need remain in a national shortage in the US. The FDA’s tracking database essentially says 🤷‍♀️ about when manufacturers might ship more.

Love to be chronically ill and reliant on chemo drugs that are part of a national shortage to stay alive 🙃 Missing doses absolutely causes negative outcomes for patients. Grateful to my doctors who are doing their best to help patients navigate this. nytimes.com/2023/05/17/healt…

Newsrooms can be magical places. There's nothing like election night, or big breaking news, or an irl brainstorm full of smart people, sparks flying. But they can also be toxic. And discriminatory. And exhausting. Two things can be true at once. nytimes.com/2023/04/29/opini…
