₹18 lakh. That is what a single wrong hire costs an Indian employer at the mid-senior level And most HR teams never see it. They track cost-per-hire to the rupee. The cost of a wrong hire stays off the dashboard. It is not rare either. Industry estimates put 15 to 20% of senior hires exiting on performance grounds inside the first year. Every month, a critical tech role sits open, adding ₹15 lakh or more in lost output. And the instinct under pressure, hiring fast, costs roughly twice as much as an on-time hire. Here is the uncomfortable part. Interviews alone predict job success with about 14% accuracy. The default process is the leak. The better way is not slower hiring.
