Though I’m not really a sports fan - this was a lesson I needed today. Teaching is my ‘basketball’ game - my meaningful pursuit. 💕

#ICYMI: Carly Santangelo, an agriculture and career tech teacher, was named this year’s Teacher of the Year. As an educator, Santangelo has expanded the scope of her students’ goals, showing that any of her students are capable of learning trades. nysut.org/news/nysut-united/…

Asking teachers to remember their "why" can be viewed as blaming teachers for losing their passion for teaching instead of working on improving the conditions that actually burn them out.

Having a blast learning at #ISTELive with #TraferaGiveBack2022! 100 laptops would increase accessibility and remove barriers to learning for my students!

Students who have IEPs aren’t “special education students.” They are general education students who receive special education supports. All students can benefit from the expertise of special educators through collaborative universal design for learning. #EdChat #udl #udlchat

Supporting new teachers starts with eliminating the veteran teacher mindset that ‘I survived with (insert stressor here), so they’ll be fine.’ We need to be better than that.

Why can districts not see this is what they’re doing to kids? (And to teachers?)

Together, we will build a world where the accomplishments of our daughters will be celebrated, rather than diminished.

If we employed a 4.0 GPA grading system but based it on our 100 point numeric system, students who did not submit assignments would be given a negative six. Our 100 point scale is archaic. Recording a zero on a 100 point scale for a missed assignment makes no educational sense.

💯
I love it when teachers are like, "I have high expectations for my students, so that's why I don't let them do late work or retake an assessment," and I get to go, "Oh, so you have high expectations for their behavior but not their learning." Because that's what it is.
