90 years from colonial mindset to invaluable repository of culture. Today in 1936, Angola’s first museum, the Dundo Museum, opened by Diamong, a diamond company, in the small mining town Dundo. Designed as an ethnological museum, its mission was “to gather and collect every characteristic object used by the indigenous races of the region.”

"Unfortunately" the only chilled drink I could find in my fridge tonight was Cypriot Commandaria 😅

I think all writers agree print remains special, so it's lovely to break my recent quiet period with a couple of pages in the latest Travel Africa magazine on planning your next Angolan safari

I've got seven different (non-travel) things penned in for 2027, which I think makes me officially an adult.

This is Nairobi National Park. The only national park in any capital city in the world. Home to lions, leopards, rhinos, and hundreds of species. A living ecosystem that belongs to every Kenyan. And right now, construction is tearing through it. 77 acres approved for development. A car park for 1,300 vehicles. A fence that the EIA describes as both 700 metres and 10 kilometres. A project cost that changes from KES 57 million to KES 315 million depending on which page you read. The park's own Management Plan prohibits development in this zone. NEMA approved it anyway. Once this habitat is gone, it cannot be restored. FoNNaP has filed a petition in the Senate and a case in the High Court. But we need the public to know what is happening. Watch this. Share it. Ask questions. Tag @kws_kenya @nema_kenya and demand transparency. #SaveNNP #NationalParkNotCarPark #NairobiNationalPark #Kenya #OurPark #Conservation #NairobiWildlife #ProtectOurParks

Books are great - truly and honestly - but if you're travelling light, the Bradt #Ghana guide is now available via the new Bradt app too!

Another week sort of done with, during which I've written more about Angola, fired off some exciting pitch ideas and dabbled in rooftop tents (cars not houses). Next week is looking equally exciting for various reasons so it's just down to the weather to perfect everything now!

My sejen (bird) sculpture from the Senufo of Cote d'Ivoire/Ivory Coast. Traditionally, these carvings stand guard over sacred sites and sometimes used in initiation ceremonies into poro secret societies.

Today's ridiculously insane sea view is brought to you by @pafosregion #PafosRegion @travwriters #BGTWPafos - a fine a scene as any I've found on the island, close to Aphrodite's Bath #unfiltered
