My team has been working on reducing layout shifts at BuzzFeed - not a straightforward task given our reliance on third party embeddable content and ads! We've gone from a score of 20 (😬) to 79 (😊) and browsing feels a ton better. We finally wrote about how we did it...

And finally in part 3 we detail our approach to pre-sizing 3rd party embeds before they even load their JS. This was what finally pushed us into the "good page" threshold and which now allows editors to add embeds without any concern for layout shifts. tech.buzzfeed.com/improving-…
