There are no laws that criminalize privacy in the EU, UK or in the US. Such laws exist only in tyrannical countries. It's only clickbait headlines that try to present privacy as something that criminals need.
On the opposite - there are many laws protecting privacy. Do the research, rather than reading headlines.

Please grow up, and understand one thing - ANY communication operator that breaks laws will not be able to protect you your security and privacy. Everybody who says otherwise is just lying.
It's another question how to follow the laws, and leaving the market that imposes some crazy requirements is always a viable option.
