What happens to @alexstubb currently happens to many consumers across the EU. They are surprised by additional customs fees. According to EU consumer law though, these costs must be indicated on the seller's website. Time to enforce the rules.
Bought two bicycle saddles online. Did not notice they would be shipped from the UK. Cost of the saddles 400 euros. Cost of customs fees 127 euros. Time spent sorting it out 60 minutes. Reminder why it is great that the EU is a customs union and we avoid this cost and hassle.

Spannende Untersuchung des @forfinancewatch Mitglieds @DezernatZ Welchen Nutzen hinsichtlich Arbeitsplatzsicherung entfalten eigentlich verschiedene Wirtschaftssubventionen?
Paper 🚨: Wie effizient sind die 60 Mrd. Unternehmenssubventionen im #Bundeshaushalt? Gute Frage, die die BReg jeweils neu beantworten sollte. Bislang fehlt dafür ein Indikator. Wir haben einen gebastelt und messen damit bang for the buck im Haushalt. 🧵/1 dezernatzukunft.org/bang-for…

Great report from our 🇸🇪 member @SvKonsumenter about the prevalence of dark patterns when unsubscribing! They looked at 20 popular media services (Netflix, Disney , Aftonbladet...) & found all used dark patterns to turn unsubscribing into a field race ⬇️ sverigeskonsumenter.se/nyhet…

Do your research. (Or ask your AI to do it.) The CFPB has returned almost $20 billion to consumers from wrongdoing banks and financial corporations. CFPB is a model of efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Delete CFPB. There are too many duplicative regulatory agencies.

Excellent question by @katarinabarley during the @mmcgrathtd hearing: Will the Commissioner-designate tackle the business models of big tech in the announced #DigitalFairnessAct to stop #consumers detriment?

Nearly 3 billion people face water scarcity today. Our final report of the Global Commission on the Economics of Water @watercommongood shows how weak economics focused on fixing markets instead of shaping economies, combined with destructive land use practices, have put the global water cycle under unprecedented stress. Time for a new approach ➡️ watercommission.org #EconomicsOfWater

We have found maladministration in @EU_Commission failure to meet legal deadlines for preparing authorisation decisions concerning dangerous chemicals. Decisions take 14.5 months on average despite 3-month deadline, with the chemicals remaining in use during the process. 🧵 1/3
