Idk I feel like Shibuya Kei and stuff like K&D wasn't trip hop per se. They were just all their own parallel scenes, those things weren't just flattened then like they are now.
Usually when people talk about Trip-Hop they always tend to miss out the Japanese scene in the 90s when Trip Hop launched a phenomenon within the industry there especially with the rise of Shibuya-Kei at that time with producers like Towa Tei magistrating great tunes.
