Iran has reportedly officially begun charging vessels that pass through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most strategically important maritime routes in the world.
According to reports, ships are paying between $1.5 million and $2 million to Iran’s National Security Council, with payments being made in either Bitcoin or Chinese yuan.
📈 Markets reacted quickly, and Bitcoin saw a sharp move higher following the news.
For those following global markets, it’s worth noting that roughly 20% of the world’s oil supply passes through the Strait of Hormuz. Any disruption, restriction, or policy change in this region can have major implications for energy prices, inflation, and risk assets worldwide.
