More than the strike itself, what stands out is the level of cooperation from the Delcy regime. This was the first direct US land strike in the region in quite some time. The coordination went beyond what we've seen from many of Washington's traditional partners in the region.
Earlier this week, the @DeptofWar — in full collaboration with Venezuelan security forces — conducted a kinetic strike on a Tren de Aragua (TdA) compound in Venezuela. TdA founder & leader Hector Rusthenford Guerrero Flores, aka “Niño Guerrero,” was confirmed killed during the strike. The operation underscores the shared U.S. and Venezuelan commitment to take the fight to narco-terrorists and deny them any safe haven in our hemisphere. We will continue to work closely with security partners, like Venezuela — and counties in the Americas Counter Cartel Coalition (A3C) partners — to take the fight to our enemies.

From Trump’s view, this is a big foreign policy win he really needed after the Iran chaos. He’s been heavily focused on Tren de Aragua for a while, so killing the top leader of the cartel perfectly backs up his claim that he's actually delivering results against the cartels.

From Delcy side, this is a massive win. She just proved yet again how useful she can be to Trump. By showing she can deliver on exactly what MCM would promise to do, she’s playing the ultimate pragmatist. This move lets her consolidate the regime and survive without elections.

A few days ago, Pete Hegseth hinted that major news was coming out of Venezuela on anti-drug efforts. Today, they delivered the first U.S. strike on land in Venezuela targeting criminal networks. The level of U.S.-Venezuela cooperation against cartels is quite impressive.
At my direction, the United States Southern Command delivered a swift and lethal kinetic strike to successfully execute Niño Guerrero, the infamous leader of Tren De Aragua, one of the most bloodthirsty Terrorist Organizations on Planet Earth. Before I returned to office, Joe Biden opened our Southern Border to millions of Illegal Criminals, and allowed this foreign army to rape, maim, and murder American Citizens with total impunity. During my Campaign, I pledged to expel these monsters from our Country, and bring Justice to the families of those they slaughtered, including the precious 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray, 22-year-old Laken Reilly, and countless other beautiful souls. With this action, the United States Military has brought retribution for them, their families, and their loved ones. Early in my Administration, I delivered on my promise to designate Tren de Aragua as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, deport thousands of evil criminals, and wage war against the Cartels, who have long been waging war against our Citizens, while weak leaders left America helpless and defensive. This action was coordinated closely with our friends in Venezuela, with whom we are working very well. As a result, Tren de Aragua terrorists no longer have safe haven in Venezuela or anywhere else and, under my leadership, we will find these vicious murderers and drugs lords anytime, anyplace, and send them to the depths of hell where they belong. GOD BLESS AMERICA! President DONALD J. TRUMP ( TS: Jun 12 2026, 9:03 PM ET )‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍

Keiko joins a growing list of right-wing leaders elected across South America. Only Uruguay, Colombia, and Brazil have leftist leaders. But Colombia may elect a far-right one in a week, and Brazil could elect Bolsonaro's son in an October election. wsj.com/world/americas/the-d… @WSJ

Russia🇷🇺–Venezuela🇻🇪 ties have been reduced to little more than diplomatic formalities as National Day celebrations. Since Maduro’s capture and the rise of Delcy, the US has totally swooped in replacing Russia with high-level visits, military ties, and major trade with Caracas.

The anthem prepared for Turkey's World Cup journey has outraged many citizens. Rather than uniting the nation, it puts Erdogan and his political party at the center. National teams belong to everyone, not to a ruling party. This is what Erdoğan dreams: An autocratic party-state!

The only thing missing from this picture is the opposition. Yes, Maduro is gone, Delcy is moderating on the economic front. But the regime itself hasn't fundamentally changed. What seems to be taking shape in Venezuela is a model of managed authoritarianism. Legal guarantees and regulatory stability will be provided for foreign investors, while the same moderation is not extended to domestic politics. The rule of law that protects investment does not necessarily translate into political freedoms, institutional checks, or political participation at home. For many investors, this won't be a problem. They've operated under similar arrangements in parts of the Middle East and elsewhere for years. Stability and predictability often matter more than democratization. That's why I don't expect meaningful elections or a genuine regime change before 2030. The opposition remains outside the picture, and the system appears designed to keep it that way. Let's see how it plays out.
Five months after U.S. special forces removed Maduro, his own allies are erasing him. Billboards whitewashed. Murals painted over. His interim successor Delcy Rodriguez dropped his name from public statements by over 90%. This is what the early stages of a political transition actually look like. The regime isn't defending Maduro anymore because cooperation with Washington is now more valuable than loyalty to a deposed leader sitting in a New York courtroom. The faster Caracas distances itself from the old guard, the faster the institutional environment stabilizes. Energy deals are already being signed. Direct flights between Miami and Caracas resumed last month. The window is opening.

What the Venezuelan opposition doesn't get is that the rule of law for Venezuelan individuals at home doesn't matter for Washington. The rule of law for foreign investors does. Delcy guarantees the latter, not the former. That's the new setup in Venezuela.
Officials "took everything, demolished walls and ceilings, and killed our dogs" when they recently expropriated the home of Venezuelan opposition leader @leopoldolopez Investors should beware: Delcy Rodriguez's regime does not respect the rule of law wsj.com/opinion/delcy-rodrig…

Delcy Rodríguez mentioned Maduro’s name 86 times in the immediate aftermath of the US raid. By March, the number of monthly mentions had fallen to just seven-a drop of more than 90%. “What is left of a leader when their name is no longer spoken?” theguardian.com/world/2026/j…

Among Turkish fans, the nationality of referees is often seen as a big deal. People immediately ask whether that country is friendly toward Turkey. The first match got a Venezuelan referee. The comments have already started:"Venezuelans like Turks. That's a good sign for our team"

Not a single word about Maduro from Delcy, his own vice president. Not a single mention from Erdoğan, who once called him "brother." Everyone acts as if January 3 never happened. No reaction, not even at the rhetorical level. That silence itself is indeed the sign of Trump effect

Documentation from human rights NGOs tells a vastly different story from what Delcy is claiming. If this evidence holds up, then the issue facing Venezuela is not merely a change in leadership but the further entrenchment of the existing autocratic regime. thevitalcenter.com/current-i…

Following Maduro's capture, the first high-level diplomatic engagement between Venezuela🇻🇪 and Turkey🇹🇷 took place today in Istanbul. The meeting is particularly significant given that Erdoğan was the last leader to maintain direct contact with Maduro and had even invited him to Turkey shortly before his capture. The invitation was likely part of Trump’s efforts to offer Maduro an exile option during the final stages of the crisis. Today, Erdoğan welcomed Delcy and her delegation. This is a clear adjustment of Ankara to the new political reality in Caracas. According to the official statement, discussions focused on bilateral relations, particularly trade, energy, and mining cooperation, with both sides reaffirming their goal of increasing annual trade volume to $3 billion. What caught my attention was that while Erdoğan emphasized Turkey's friendship with the Venezuelan people and its commitment to strengthening ties with Venezuela, he never mentioned Maduro. For a leader who once called Maduro his "brother" and stood by him when few others did, that silence was noticeable. As in many other foreign policy issues, Erdoğan is proving once again how pragmatic he is. Turkey intends to expand its relationship with Venezuela in the post-Maduro era. Far from abandoning Caracas, Turkey seeks to adapt and pursue new opportunities. Energy and mining sectors are precisely the areas where Turkish companies have long sought a greater presence in Venezuela. Many analysts previously predicted that booming Turkish-Venezuelan relations would end after Maduro's departure. I argued the opposite. As China, Russia, and Iran lose ground in Venezuela, Turkey sees new opportunities. Erdoğan will likely use his close ties with Trump to expand Turkey's economic presence, especially in energy, mining, and trade in 🇻🇪
