Not sure if anyone is really on Twitter anymore, but figured I'd post here as well!

Excited to share my postdoc work from the Gale lab! We asked where/what vRNAs are sensed during WNV infection. Turns out low levels of -vRNAs make their way into the cytoplasm during egress to be sensed by RIG-I and their accumulation underlies heterogeneous immune activation!
Exposure of negative-sense viral RNA in the cytoplasm initiates innate immunity to West Nile virus biorxiv.org/cgi/content/shor… #biorxiv_micrbio

Everyone go read this excellent work by the inimitable @nandangokhale ! It’s been so fun to watch this project come together over the past few years. A little less viral RNA than I would like 😉, but exciting nonetheless!
m7GpppNm - VERY EXCITED to share my postdoctoral work in with @RamlabUW, now out @bioRxiv. We found that cellular RNA interacts with MAVS, the adaptor protein of the RIG-I-like receptor pathway, to promote antiviral signaling. "🧵": buff.ly/45bzXui

One of the best parts of science is undoubtedly the people. Grad school was partly so fun bc I got to hang out every day with incredible lab mates who became great friends. We had a Lopez lab alumni zoom reunion today and look how happy everyone is to hang out again!

So many fascinating molecular virology questions begging to be asked and answered surrounding NSSVs and DVGs! Go have fun playing with Paramxyos in the Lopez lab- I know I did!
The Lopez Lab has an open postdoc position to study what makes us sick during respiratory viral infections. Curious? Interested? Let us know! Visit lopezlab.org to learn more about the lab.
