Bohemian FC, FairSquare and Irish Sport for Palestine have come together to call on UEFA to suspend the Israel Football Association for serious and ongoing breaches of both UEFA and FIFA statutes.
Our joint submission highlights two clear and independent grounds for suspension:
— Israeli clubs based in illegal West Bank settlements continue to play under the IFA without the consent of the Palestinian Football Association, in direct violation of FIFA’s territorial rules.
— The IFA has failed to enforce effective anti-racism measures, despite persistent evidence of anti-Palestinian racist chanting and incitement from organised supporter groups, contrary to UEFA’s obligations.
This rules-based request comes against the backdrop of the UN’s finding on 16 September that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, and confirmation on 22 August of famine in Gaza Governorate. These determinations cannot be separated from the statutory violations for which the IFA is responsible.
UEFA has shown humanitarian concern, with messages such as “Stop Killing Children. Stop Killing Civilians” at the 2025 Super Cup. Words must now be matched with actions: upholding statutes and applying football’s rules consistently.
In Ireland, the next step will be to lobby to secure a motion at the FAI General Assembly mandating the Association to bring this case to UEFA’s Executive Committee.
On this point we urge all LOI fans to speak to their club decision makers and ensure they support it.
This is about using football’s democratic structures to ensure supporters’ voices are heard and that rules are applied without discrimination.
