we shipped gpt-5.5 instant today to chat; it's rolling out over the next couple days to everyone. for this model, we focused on factuality, crushing hacks, and improving the baseline intelligence. 5.5 is a pretty big step forward on all three. it is much smarter, significantly less likely to hallucinate, and just more delightful to talk to. there is always more to do but i'm pretty excited about this one!

This was the second model I got to work on with @ManukaStratta and I can now confidently say she’s actually a data center of geniuses in a trenchcoat. Incredible endurance and attention to detail. This model wouldn’t be possible without her!

Shopping research is powered by a version of GPT-5R mini that we fine-tuned specifically for shopping, and that performs better on our internal product accuracy evals than larger browsing models. We also trained it to be natively interruptible and steerable based on real-time, in-context user feedback and preferences.

Today, @rhythmrg, @lindensli and I are introducing @appliedcompute. We’re building Specific Intelligence for the enterprise.
Achieving SOTA today means specialization in both human and machine talent. We’ve spent the last six months working with companies like @cognition, @DoorDash, and @mercor_ai, unlocking their company knowledge to build custom agent workforces that outperform frontier models at specific tasks.
My cofounders and I all worked on different parts of this problem while at OpenAI, from Codex to o1 to the ML systems and infrastructure for RL training. Two-thirds of our team (see below!) are former founders, and everyone brings a deep technical background, from top AI researchers to Math Olympiad winners.
We’ve raised $80M from @benchmark, @sequoia, @Lux_Capital, @eladgil, @victoralazarte, and @Casspi18, and we’re hiring across engineering and research.

We're introducing GPT-5. The evals are SOTA, but the real story is usefulness. It helps with what people care about-- shipping code, creative writing, and navigating health info-- with more steadiness and less friction. We also cut hallucinations. It's better calibrated, says "I don't know," separates facts from guesses, and can ground answers with citations when you want. And it's also a good sparring partner 🙃
I've been inspired seeing the care, passion, and level of detail from the team. Excited to see what people do with these very smart models
