The man did the right thing
A man in my area divorced his wife because of food.
Not because she couldnโt cook.
Because she refused to stop cooking for another man.
The story sounded funny at first until we heard the full gist.
According to him, every morning before work, his wife would wake up extra early to prepare food for one โfamily friendโ who lived nearby.
At first, he didnโt think much of it.
The man was close to the family. Always around. Always greeting respectfully.
Sometimes the wife would even say: โHe hasnโt eaten since morning.โ โHeโs just like a brother.โ
So the husband ignored it.
But gradually, things started becoming strange.
The wife would get angry if the man complained about the food. She started buying specific ingredients because: โThatโs what he likes.โ
One day, the husband came home unexpectedly in the afternoon.
He entered the kitchen and met his wife packaging soup into different plates carefully.
He jokingly asked, โHope my own dey there?โ
The wife laughed and said: โYour own is on the fire. This one is for him.โ
Something about that reply pained him deeply.
Not because of the foodโฆ but because of the priority.
According to him, that was the moment he realized emotionally, another man had started occupying space in his marriage.
The final straw came months later.
The โfamily friendโ got engaged to another woman.
Everybody expected the wife to be happy for him.
Instead, she became moody for days.
Stopped talking properly. Even cried one night after returning from the introduction ceremony.
The husband said that was when reality hit him hard.
He confronted her.
At first, she denied everything.
Then she finally admitted: โI donโt know when I got emotionally attached.โ
That marriage ended quietly.
Till today, people still argue about the story.
Some say the husband overreacted because there was no confirmed cheating.
Others say emotional cheating is sometimes worse because the body usually follows later.
But honestlyโฆ
At what point does โcareโ become emotional betrayal?
