Nobody asked for a half assed essay about Coil, femininity, and his relationship with Wolf I wrote in bed on my phone but here guys
#phighting
ALT I was ranting to a couple of people abt this but I will always see Coil as feminine because it lowkey elevates his story in such a meaningful way to me. Especially with his relationship with Wolf.
Wolf and Coilâs parent-child relationship feels so uniquely feminine to me. A story of a Mother and a Daughter. Iâd even argue that Mother and Son or even Father and Son dont fit them. Young girls tend to have to face growing up earlier than that of their peers. And a mother understands that with her daughter.
Mothers (usually) want whatâs best for their daughters having seen the world for what it is at a younger age. Mothers think to their daughters âIâve been through this. I can prevent it happening to you. I know whatâs best for you.â
ALT Its pretty safe to say that itâs a universal experience for almost any daughter to say that their mother hurt them by trying to prevent getting hurt. They want to teach their daughters how they learned to survive. They never think about their daughters as their own person as rather an extension of themselves, albeit unintentionally.
Wolf isnât directly abusive. But sheâs not caring or sweet either. Going too far in either direction fundamentally misunderstands her relationship with Coil and by extension Coil himself.
Wolf learned to close herself off in order to keep herself safe so in turn she believes that its the only way for Coil to be safe. She cares for and loves Coil but sheâs neglectful. She doesnât outright directly punish her but she lets her sit there and watches her wallow with no comfort as a lesson.
ALT This is me projecting a little but in my eyes Coil will always come back to her. She hopes that Wolf will show her remorse, maybe even mutter a sorry. That sheâll one day comfort her as she cries. She never does, yet Coil comes back to her anyways. Coil loves her. And will forever love her.
If we continue the âMother and Daughterâ theory I feel like Coil could never fully let go of his femininity. Because he still loves Wolf. Everything he is and does is because of her. Because heâs grateful to her and everything sheâs done for him. But also I believe he wouldnât completely shun masculinity either, just a little bit of his own presentation poking through.
But I donât think Coilâs femininity is only a direct homage to Wolf I think itâs also a part of herself. A part of herself she does still enjoy. Her femininity would become different to that of Wolfâs.
ALT Low effort drawing of Coil.
Thank you for reading my dumb rant
